While there has been a constant allegation women have to face for being bad drivers, we have a different opinion. As we evolve towards gender equality and break the stereotyped sexism its high time that we start acknowledging their driving prowess. Here is why we think ITS NOT FAIR!!
GENDER ROLES
Since the 80’s, we men have dominated the driving seat while women happily played second fiddle as passengers. In the Indian context, majority of women were busy in household responsibilities thus never getting an opportunity to get their hands on the steering wheel. So let us not get judgemental. After all women deserve a bit of time to fill in the new shoes.
CONSISTENCY
Practice is the key to perfection. Even today, most women take the back seat while men do the driving. Consider this, how can we expect someone who cooks meals once a month to match the culinary skills of a person who cooks daily? The bottom line is the more we drive, the better we get. So instead of complaining lets give women a chance.
HALO EFFECT
People modify their behaviour in response to how they are treated. Thus, when women are constantly labeled as bad drivers; that is what they tend to believe in and behave likewise. So here’s a bit that men can do, is to encourage women to drive. Treat them as good drivers and that is what they will eventually become.
TESTOSTERONE
Good driving according to men is being quick, reckless & aggressive behind the wheel that is influenced by this hormone. It is this hormone that eventually leads to men having 20% more of accident cases as compared to women. Research shows that women are 80% more likely to obey the traffic rules than men.
